“Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.” – Deuteronomy 34:4
Last night, we had our Student Takeover service at our church. I don’t have enough words to explain how I felt during and after service…even now. I just can’t. It was that good. God showed up. If you were to ask me what happened and how it went, the only thing I could say is: God. He is the only One who made last night possible.
Dana Armstrong & our Restoration Youth Band did such an amazing job leading us into the throne room. My wife, Lindsey Wilkerson & the RESTORED Drama Team blew my mind with their ministering. I felt God…I saw God…God was there. He inhabited in a holy place last night. Then, I preached a sermon about Moses going to Mt. Nebo and get this, the Lord speaks to him and says, “I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but you will not go over there.”
Moses was a sinful man, but God still chose to use him to lead God’s people out of slavery and into the promise land. After many years and many trials, Moses comes to the end of his ropes at 120 years of age when God speaks to him (Deut. 34:4). Moses devoted his entire life leading the next generation to the promise land, but God told Moses that he would not go there. I believe Moses heard the voice of God say, “Moses, it’s time to pass the mantle.”
We have a job to do. We must show this next generation how to fear God. We must show this next generation how to spend hours upon hours in prayer. We must show this next generation how to get lost in the very presence of God. WE MUST!
But, the question is: are you willing to lead the next generation, even if you won’t see the fruits of what you sow? Moses was with the Israelites for almost 80 years leading them to the Promise Land, and when Moses goes to the top of Mt. Nebo, God says, “sorry, not gonna be able to go there.” I sense that Moses began to worry. He thoughts probably were: “have I shown Joshua how to fear God?” “have I fulfilled everything that God has called me to do?” “have I shown this next generation how to terry in the presence of God?”
If you are ministry for a paycheck, get out. If you are volunteering in a youth ministry because you want to be seen, get out. God is looking for some people that show this next generation how to be holy…how to fear God…how to pray…how to fast…how to seek God in trials.
I am asking you, whoever you are reading this, I am pleading as Moses did, show this next generation how to be DIFFERENT! Show them that rich and fame doesn’t matter. Show them even in the middle of a crisis, God is still who He says He is. Show them that what the world says is “good” isn’t good at all. Show them that sex, drugs, alcohol, SIN is not acceptable! Let us join together, in unity, for the Kingdom’s purpose, and lead this next generation by example.
We have a job to do. Will you join with me? This next generation needs you.
